Tickario

About Tickario

Tickario is a free web time tracker for people who bill clients by the hour. This page explains what it is, why it exists, how it works and where it is different.

What Tickario is

Tickario records the time you spend on client work and turns it into numbers you can use: hours per client and project, earnings at your rates, and reports you can send. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install, and the interface adapts to smaller screens.

Why it exists

Most time trackers are built around teams: managers, approvals, timesheets for employees. A freelancer needs something different. They work for several clients at once. Each client pays a different rate, often in a different currency. They sometimes run two things in parallel and must never bill the same hour twice. And at the end of the week they need a clean account of the work to send to a client.

Tickario starts from that picture instead of adapting a team tool. Clients, rates and currencies are the foundation; the timer, journal and reports sit on top of them.

What makes it different

It guards against double billing

You can run two timers at once, but not two for the same client. Entries that overlap in time are flagged in the journal. Most trackers leave this to you to notice.

Money is a first-class citizen

A rate lives on an entry, a project or a client, each with its own currency. Cost shows next to every entry, and totals are per currency instead of being forced into one. See billable hours tracking.

Reports are built to be sent

A PDF with the client’s logo, or a short link with a lifetime you choose, in the language you pick. Read about client reports.

Honest hours

Idle detection offers to subtract time you were away, and auto-stop ends a forgotten timer and emails you. The tools exist to make the record accurate, not to watch you.

A dashboard you assemble

Twenty-nine widgets (recent entries, activity calendar, streaks, goals, totals for any period, breakdowns by project and client) that you add, drag and resize, in one of three card styles and in light or dark theme.

No password and no card

You sign in with a link sent to your email, and the product is free. There is no credit card to enter and no countdown to a paid plan.

How it works

Tickario is a web application. Your account, entries, projects and clients are stored in a database on our own infrastructure, not on a third-party analytics or advertising platform. The interface is available in nine languages, and reports can be generated in any of them regardless of your interface language.

The technology is conventional on purpose: a server-rendered web app (Next.js and React with TypeScript), PostgreSQL for data, passwordless email sign-in and transactional email for the sign-in link and timer notices. We prefer boring, well-understood parts, because a time tracker is something you rely on every day.

Principles

  • Your data is yours. It is stored on our own infrastructure and is not sold. See the Privacy Policy.
  • Analytics only with consent. We use essential cookies to keep the site working. Analytics on the public pages loads only if you accept it, and it is not used inside the signed-in app.
  • Say what it does not do. The limits above are listed deliberately, so you know what to expect before you sign up.
  • Keep it simple. Features are added when they serve the core job of tracking and billing time, not to lengthen a feature list.

Where it is heading

Shared workspaces for working with others are in development. They are not available today, and we will not describe them as available until they are.
